FLOW THROUGH DISTRIBUTION
Short term warehousing is often called flow through because material is staged for distribution to/from multiple locations. This type of service requires greater handling and inventory control but is a perfect fit with REI Transportation service. From large racks and baskets to cartons and pallets, Korten has done it.
INSIDE VS OUTSIDE
Just what it means. Normally bare racks, tubs, and other types of returnable dunnage can be stored outside. Most raw or finished material requires inside storage.
Material which requires shelving to increase space utilization. Shelving is constructed and space is dedicated for a particular customer or Korten management determines that shelving will be necessary to increase space for the customers commodities.
This type of distribution is performed for finished products which require an order mix within a container/rack/pallet. The order mix is broadcasted by the customer with a specified sequence of part numbers which require the warehouse to build into a container. Timing requirements and/or window times are established which are handled by the REI Transportation service.
This type of service is utilized when material is transferred from one type of packaging to another. Usually material is taken out of a large container containing a large quantity of stock and repackaged into smaller containers for eventual distribution to multiple locations. In some cases, Korten will take material packaged in corrugated boxes and transfer to returnable plastic or metal containers. Some bulky commodities are often taken from racks or metal containers and repackaged onto pallets or smaller boxes for distribution to a specific location. Inventories of these commodities are maintained at the Korten warehouse and individual order request is transmitted for same day, next day, or deferred delivery to the customer.
This service is normally associated with material which is suspected of having a quality defect or if stock has been mixed in the container. Instructions are provided by the customer to locate parts which don't meet critical dimensions or have machining defect. Korten will also provide warehouse space and material handling support for outside companies to perform quality certification and inspection.
